Is second season that bad?

Even the manga gets pretty weird towards the end of vol2.

Seasons in anime are 13 eps a piece, so almost all anime are two seasons long, some go longer (utena went for a 3rd season, 39 eps total) and some do it like slayers, w/each season 26 eps, and making the different seasons be sold as different sereis (TRY, NEXT, orig.)

Borrowed Otaku no Video from a friend of mine. It's a pretty good movie, but it really relies on your knowedge of older animes, like Macross, Lupin III and Gundam.
